July 2023 Update

God is good! Things are busier than ever for BUILD in our lead up to our Central Campus expansion anticipated to open this upcoming Fall of 2023 and possibly as soon as September! We are so excited! In June we had hundreds of people come to our open houses and learn more about our Centre for the City! If you missed that we encourage you to watch some videos below that will share what the Centre is all about. Spoiler alert – it’s about everything God can do for our city – through us! Watch the video below or visit the Centre webpage for more information!

Timeline update for BUILD volunteers

Changes to volunteer timelines:

We previously communicated that we need an army of volunteers on July 29 to help us move in preparation to open our doors for ministry in the expansion by mid-August or early September. However, we are experiencing delays in our move-in timelines due to on-the-ground construction realities but we could still use people that day to help us clean in preparation for the move. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the complexities of our construction timelines. See our estimated move-in timelines further below and if you signed up to help us move equipment, watch your email for an updated date. If you have not previously signed up to serve and can help, click here.

Children’s Ministry Break – July 29-Aug 14

Children’s Ministry at Central Campus is taking a break between July 29 to August 14, as we usually do every year to accommodate CSCamps, the August long weekend and now the Central Campus Camp Out as we use this time to prepare for our move and new spaces.

Families will return to their usual Children’s Ministries spaces following that break.

Expansion Opening and Volunteer Needs

We now hope to open our doors around Mid-September and prior to that (late August and early September) we will need an army of volunteers to help us move into the new space.

Of course, these timelines are based on the best information we have at present. As things change, we will keep you updated. Sign up for the Central campus email to stay up to date here.

These are this month’s top construction updates:
  • The main floor washrooms at Central Campus are being renovated. Alternative washrooms are available – learn more here.
  • Flooring in the gym, lower-level meeting/sports area and the sports/squash court is complete. Flooring including ceramic tile installation in other areas is continuing.
  • Exterior concrete stairs on the north side of the expansion have been poured. Sidewalk installation is continuing.

  • Painting and installation of doors, door frames, window frames continue.

  • Connections between the existing facility and the expansion are being developed, including the expansion of the chapel.

  • Installation of a second entrance to the south parking lot from 38 Ave has begun.

  • Renovations in the SW corner of the existing building will begin sometime this fall, after receiving occupancy of the expansion.

  • Interior work continues including steel stud framing, insulation, drywall & taping, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire-spray, lighting, millwork/cabinetry, flooring and primer/paint. It will soon be time to clean the expansion in preparation for occupancy.

  • Bearspaw Campus landscaping is almost complete, and the pergola has been built.

Update Videos

God is transforming our city… through us!

This past June we shared our vision for the Centre for the City! By the way - you don’t have to be an attendee of Central Campus to be for the city! So much more than a building, the Centre for the City is a movement, and it involves all of us coming together to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our communities.

Watch the vision above and how God called Leo and Susan to be “for the city” in the name of Jesus!

Also…. If you missed our Open Houses, check this out!

During our June open houses it was amazing to see empty construction hallways filled with hundreds of people!

“Someone just came out and they looked at me with teary eyes and they said, ‘It’s amazing what God can do when we give him our gifts.’  And it is true! We believe that God has led us on this journey, and we are just stepping out in faith.”

– Communication Pastor Pam sharing an impression from one tour participant

Importance of Prayer

Prayer of the month

Pray that God’s hand would be in our construction timelines – pray that we will not experience delays in our Occupation Permit or our construction and that God would open the way for our Central Expansion to be ready to open its doors for ministry this Fall!

Finance Update

We are grateful for how, through your generosity to May 2023, God has provided $20.5M (Chapter 1 $15.7M, Chapter 2 $4.8M) leaving $5.0M remaining in our Chapter 2 goal. We still have a way to go to reach our goal. Thank you for continuing to pray and persevere with us in our journey to “complete the work,” physically, spiritually, and financially, in the spirit of 2 Corinthians 8:11.
